Three chemical that carried out desizing

Chemicals that carried out desizing

Desizing is carried out by three chemical methods

1. Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCL)

2. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)

3. Sodium Bromite(BrNaO2)

Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCL)

Padding solution- Sodium Hypochlorite - 2GPL

Process flow -

Padding → Store(1 to 2 hr) → Hot & cold wash

Because Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCL) is also used as a bleaching agent, this is also known as grey checking.

For this method, the cloth is padded in a 2 GPL sodium hypochlorite solution and stored for 1 to 2 hours before being washed hot and cold.

Chemical concentration, temperature, and pH must all be kept constant.

Sodium Bromite (BrNaO2)

Padding solution- Sodium Bromite - (0.1 to 0.3 % )

Process flow

Padding → Store (1 hour) → Scoured → Hot wash or Cold wash

In this technique, a sodium bromite solution (0.1 to 0.3 per cent) is prepared, and the fabric is padded in it for about 1 hour at 60°C, following which the cloth is scoured or given a hot wash followed by a cold wash.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)

Padding solution- H2O2 - 1% Stabilizer- 1% Soda ash- 0.5 %

Process flow

Padding  Batching → Kept in a closed vessel where it is steamed at 80-85°C.

Because this chemical is a powerful oxidizing and bleaching agent, it can complete both processes in one go.

Hydrogen peroxide serves as an oxidizer and desizing agent, while sodium silicate serves as a stabilizer. The only purpose of the ash is to modify the pH of the solution.

For the method, the fabric is padded in a solution containing the necessary chemicals in the proper proportions, then held in a closed vessel after batching and steamed at 80 to 85°C, where the chemicals are active and little scouring occurs.

  • The oxidative desizing process combines the scouring and desizing processes to assist increase the fabric's basic whiteness. However, it is expensive and not ideal for light or delicate materials.

Questions -

  1. Which are the three chemicals that carried out desizing?
  2. What the role of Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCL) in desizing process?
  3. What the role of Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in desizing process?
  4. What the role of Sodium Bromite(BrNaO2) in desizing process?
